VOLUNTEER DEF: “A person who freely offers to undertake a task”

Volunteering comes naturally to some.

It mostly stems from an awareness that a task needs to be done and somebody has to do it.

Getting involved brings great satisfaction by knowing that your contribution has made a difference.

The value of what a volunteer has actually contributed though, means so much more to a club who absolutely relies on it.

In celebration of Volunteer’s Week 2024 we shine a light on every single person who has lent a hand in one way or another to help Carisbrook Football Netball Club.

Since 1881 thousands of players, families, friends and supporters have contributed. A club can only be as strong as those who help it run.

Across the club in general – this is to everyone who does anything to help – whether what you do is seen or not.

• around the clubrooms

• around the court

• around the ground

• in the kitchen

• in the bar

• at training

• on Thursday nights

• organising functions

• in the office

• at home

• season planning

• game day planning

• on games days

• on non-game days

• early in the morning

• late at night

Our club runs like a well oiled machine, and it has to, to support our 300+ players who participate in the sports they love.

Volunteering also comes easily to those who are passionate about something and there are many people passionate about the Carisbrook Redbacks.

They want to see the club succeed and survive.

However, it is a very fragile thing and can fall in a heap quite easily.

That’s why we always need to see new faces getting involved.

Don’t be complacent of the few people who take on mammoth roles around the club.

What can you do?

• If you see something that needs doing – please help.

• If you have an idea – suggest it and back it by doing it.

• Even if you don’t have time, still help – we are all busy.

At the AGM in November join the general committee and take on a role that will help shape the future of the club.

To thank every single volunteer by name is impossible. We recently had a list of nominations for volunteer recognition within our club. We will release our volunteers of the month in the near future.
